Marine Blue 2437
created by

Marine Blue (Leptotes marina) - One of the more common blue butterflies from Texas west to southern California and into northern Baja, California. It has at least three flight seasons in San Diego County and can be found from native habitats to your backyard. The caterpillars are not too particular to its hostplant but they have a preference to legumes. Males and females are dimorphic with males having a pastel almost transparent blue while the female is more brownish with a small amount of blue towards the center of its wings near the butterfly's body. The underside is very distinct with brown and white wavy lines.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Klein
