Magic," is a term coined while the ship was forward deployed in
Japan. It comes from the Japanese word "Majutsue," meaning
that no matter what happens, we are ready.
The USS Midway was ready for 47 years, from the end of WWII until its
last deployment, in Desert Storm, serving as the Persian Gulf flagship.
According to many former crewmembers, the USS Midway was indeed a magic
vessel. When she was decommissioned and sat empty and silent at the
Navy Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility in Bremerton, Washington the
magic was still there. Now after years, of planning that magic once
again comes alive as she is put into service as a major museum.
