Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) The roadrunner is approximately 24". It is streaked gray-brown, has bright yellow eyes with a blue and red streak behind the eye. It has a bushy crest that can be raised and lowered at will. The roadrunner has long legs and a long tail that it uses to slow itself down when it is running fast. The roadrunner is a desert bird and adapts itself very well to the warm climate. It eats insects, lizards, snakes rodents fruit and seeds. The roadrunner can be found in desert areas from Northern California south to Mexico and East to Louisiana. It can run approximately 15 miles per hour.
