California Whipsnake or Striped Racer (Masticophis lateralis) The Striped Racer is a slender species. It is black,
or brownish on the back and a lighter color toward the tail. They have a yellow or white dark-edged stripe down sides from the back of the head to the belly, with a white, cream or pale yellow belly becoming salmon/pink at tail. They have large eyes with round pupils and smooth scales. The Striped Racer is an alert, fast moving snake that is difficult to capture.
